Quick search parameters

The database can be search very simply by searching the individual field entries. For example:-

drug=ach

will return all experiments where acetylcholine was used.

You can combine fields with boolean operators as well:-

drug=ach and citation=revah

for example will return 5 experiments where the authors Revah et al used acetylcholine.

Please note that this method only allows direct access to the raw data fields, it does not enable you to compare equivalent positions.

The following provides a complete list of fields that can be queried (note: some of these fields may have no entries currently).

mutation_position
The sequential number of an amino acid
mutation
A string representing the mutation, e.g. A203Y
res_from
residue from, i.e. an amino acid in the wt that was mutated. For example, you may want to specify mutations in which a phenylalanine is mutated.
res_to
A residue to which a wt residue is mutated, e.g. having selected a region of interest, you may only want to list mutations to arginine
citation
Anything in the citation string. Note that we only store citations in an abbreviated form, such as "Brown et al, 2002". We do not wish to duplicate literature databases.
PMID
This is the PubMed identification number.
ic_envir
The intracellular environment. In the case of whole cell patch experiments, this would be the composition of the pipette-filling medium.
ec_envir
The extracellular environment. In most cases, this will be the composition of the bathing medium.
technique
The experimental technique used to get the physiological or pharmacological data, This can be intracellular recording, two-electrode voltage clamp etc.
tissue
The tissue source, i.e. the actual tissue used in the experiment, such as where a brain slice was taken from, or, in the case of heterologous expression, the tissue origin of the message, if applicable.
expression_system
The expression system used in heterologous expression experiments. e.g. oocyte.
transfection_technique
The technique used to introduce the message into a heterologous expression system. E.g. injection, ca precipitation.
message
The message form, e.g. cDNA, cRNA.
expression_level
A qualitative term describing expression level, e.g. low, high.
other_subunits
Which other subunits were expressed with the alpha7?
drug
The drug tested.
e_ic50
The ec50 or the ic50 as appropriate.
action
The drug's primary action, e.g. agonist, allosteric modulator.
competitive
Whether an antagonist's action was competitive or not. Values in the database are competitive, non-competitive, mixed.
voltage_dependency
The voltage-dependence of an antagonist's action. Entered into the database as 'voltage-dependent' or 'voltage-independent'.
mean_open
In single channel studies, the mean open time in ms.
popen
The open probability, range 0-1.
number_of_open_states
The number of open states.
number_of_closed_states
The number of closed states.
conductance
The unitary conductance in pS.
permeability_order
The order of ionic permeability, e.g. Na>K>>Cl.
affinit_order
The order of affinity of drugs, eg ACh>nic>>GABA.
expression
The effect on expression, e.g. abolished, enhanced.
ca_permeability
The calcium permeability of the receptor. Can be numerical or qualitative.
ic_modulation
By what is the channel intracellularly modulated? e.g. cAMP.
species
A comma-delimited list of the species to be searched. The base species, ie the one for which mutation numbering applies, must come first.
